Pablo Mateu presented his most recent book of short stories
The writer Pablo Mateu has just presented “Different victims”, his new book of stories that was launched through Paradiso Ediciones.
Mateu is known for his theatrical work, performing both as an actor, satirical director and writer. He also adapted dramatic works. Previously, published the dystopian novel “El Irisid” in 2003.
With regard to "Diverse victims" is the author's first short story work. According to the also writer Pablo De Santis, the first story he read by Mateu “told the story of a financial advisor who hit his head on his computer keyboard, unleashing, involuntarily, a global financial crisis.
This story "supports one of Mateu's ways of telling: the sarcasm, the irony, the wild humor. So also other stories such as "Frutos de mar" and "Torcuato, the promise” share “that taste for premeditated exaggeration. Other stories bet on the opposite: the containment, the accent placed on the look, attention to detail”.
“There are authors who prefer to unite their stories around a common trait or a shared universe. Others, como Elvio Gandolfo, have defended the variety of the storybook, as if it were a chest from which the author takes different objects, to the surprise of the reader. In the chest that is this book, the reader will find varied objects and at the same time with ties to each other, but they all have the same watermark: they are worked with an inspired prose and a vivid imagination”, De Santis ends.
