The Book Foundation, organizer of the International Book Fair of Buenos Aires -which was to begin the 30 of April- announced the realization of two productions made especially for International Book Day, which is celebrated this Thursday 23 of April.

It is about, on the one hand, of a video in tribute to the Argentine authors, through a narration that proposes a diverse journey through more than 30 titles that bring together different genres, interests and public. It is a piece of communication designed for networks and whatsapp, it works like an acknowledgment, with high level of viralization, to all national authors. “Creemos que en estos momentos es clave sostener y tratar de fortalecer lo propio -dice María Teresa Carbano, President of the Fundación El Libro-, beyond that we are a society open to all readings and we even organize an international fair of great projection and prestige. Pero somos y seguiremos siendo importantes en el concierto mundial en la medida en que seamos notables y fuertes en lo que nosotros mismos producimos”.

At the same time, The Fundación El Libro developed a chronology of the book in Argentina to reflect on the tradition and potential of publishing our country, that today more than ever demands recognition and support. The history of the book is shown here not as a succession of titles, although there are some of them, but as the construction of an industry in which the printing company participates, the newspaper, the editorial, la librería y la biblioteca”.

Unesco's decision to commemorate International Book Day was based on the fact that on the same date of 1616 William Shakespeare passed away, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra and the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. And the decision remembers the value of reading, of the book industry and the need for intellectual property protection.
