Richie Ramone: “Ramones is one of the biggest bands in rock and roll and point”
Richie Ramone, considered the fastest and most powerful drummer who knew how to integrate the legendary punk-rock band from 1983 Y 1987, will be presented again in the country will give two concerts (the 20 Y 21 of August), one of them will be in the White Vinyl Bar (Hipolito Yrigoyen Avenue 13233, Adrogué) and the remaining in Uniclub (Guardia Vieja 3360, Palermo), where he will review the greatest hits of the legendary group New York native and also will perform songs from her latest album, Cellophane.
But before his arrival in the country he gave an exclusive interview with La Vereda, where he recalled previous visits to Argentina and some anecdotes with his old band.
What things do you remember about your previous visits?
I was in Argentina twice, one with my band and remaining with The Ramones, in '87. Beyond fans are the craziest and loyal that a band could want.
Four years have passed my last show in Argentina, so I am very excited to be back. The Argentina known as waving heads!
Argentina's followers are among the most fanatical of the Ramones. Is it different playing here than in other countries?
I think the fans of The Ramones are the biggest worldwide. They are extremely loyal and very intelligent. They know what they want, you know? On the other hand, Argentina is on top because I really love the live music, and the public enjoys full night, rocking hard. I love playing there.
Richie arrives in the country with his band, integrated by Ronnie Simmons on guitar, Clare Misstake on bass and Ben Reagan on rhythm guitar and drums. "Interspersed with Ben instruments, because I also like to be front and thus interact with the public is a very important part of the concert ", said Richie.
Do you remember the first time you met Joey and the rest of the band?
The first time was during my audition to join the group, in 1983. But nevertheless, Joey was not there. That day I played a couple of songs with Johnny and Dee Dee.
During the following test, Joey was present and then we became friends. We really were very close.
Were you a fan of them?
I saw the Ramones live when I had 18 years and, after six years, I was auditioning for them. Can that be crazy! Boy never had any poster of them on my wall, or anything like. But, once I joined the group I became a big fan and I realized I was playing with one of the biggest bands in the world.
At what point did you think you had won the title of the fastest and most powerful drummer who had the Ramones?
I have no idea and I honestly do not know where it could have come this title. I know that in my time the band sounded like the tightest, hard and fast that ringing coming.
Another of the titles given to Richie is the fact of having sung with Joey issues like Freak of nature, del disco Animal Boy y Chasing the Night. He also sang with Dee Dee in Wart Hog, del álbum Too tough to die.
But nevertheless, his most remembered song has surely been the classic Somebody put something in my drink, which it was included on the album Ramones Mania, only in the discography of the band who knew how to reach Disco de Oro.
How did that song?
When I was a kid we went to clubs and stole drinks asking people because we had no money. One night, I stole the cup that someone put LSD and frightens me because I knew what the hell was happening to me. That story was told years later Dee Dee and told me I should write a song about it. And I did it!
How would you describe the Ramones for the history books?
One of the biggest bands in rock and roll and point. They changed the sound of music for generations to come.
What do you think about the current punk scene?
I think he's still alive and kicking. Maybe it's not how big it used to be before, but there are still some diehard fans misfits and still go to see live music.
"Cellophane is an album that kills you"
Richie arrives in the country with a new album under his arm. It is called Cellophane and was produced in Los Angeles. "It's an album that kills you", said the musician, who said he was "edited by DC Jam Records and produced by Paul Roessler".
Cellophane was recorded at Red Bull Studios and "left me very pleased, coupled with the good reviews it received ", counted drummer.
On the other hand, Richie said that "the band after visiting Argentina plans to go to Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Ireland ". These dates can be seen on the official website, www.richieramone.com.
