They selected the works of the 8M Visual Arts Acquisition Prize

Recently, the Ministry of Culture of the Nation chose the winning works of the call for Visual Arts 8M.

It is an award intended for female artists, lesbians, transvestites and trans with the aim of making visible and reversing the strong inequality in the makeup of museum collections. In that context, The winning works will make up the art collection of the Palais de Glace-National Palace of the Arts.

The call was promoted by the Ministry of Culture of the Nation, through the Secretariat of Cultural Heritage, with the support of the Ministry of Women, Genres and Diversity and the Kirchner Cultural Center. It is part of the multiple actions carried out to raise awareness and commemorate the International Day of Working Women.

This contest is a historic event, since for the first time a call was made from the State with the main objective of reversing the patriarchal conformation of the national cultural heritage and the critical situation of gender parity in public collections.

The 8M Award had a more than remarkable response, since they were received 4560 complete applications, among which a jury of experts had the difficult task of selecting the winners. It was made up of Cecilia Merchán, Secretary for Equality and Diversity Policies; Valeria Gonzalez, Secretary of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture; Diana Broggi, Undersecretary of Training, Research and Cultural Policies for Equality; Feda Baeza, directora del Ice Palace; Andrea Giunta, Conicet researcher and PhD in Art History, specialized in genre issues.

For the 8M Acquisition Award,, initially, four million pesos distributed in eight prizes of 500 one thousand pesos each. Thanks to the support of Banco de la Nación Argentina, that made an acquisition agreement with the Ministry of Culture, the number of winning works that will make up the national collection of the Palais de Glace will be doubled to sixteen.

further, in response to the outstanding quality of the proposals received, The Kirchner Cultural Center decided to allocate its most important exhibition space for the 8M Prize: The Great Lamp. Which implies, in addition to guaranteeing a sample of the highest hierarchy, increase from 80 a 94 the selected artists.

Finally, from the next edition, during the year 2022, the fifth external jury will be an artist from those already incorporated into the Collection.
