This Saturday 10 June The Mississippi will continue to celebrate its 35 years of experience with a very special concert, since it will be at the Usina del Arte (venue where they will perform for the first time) and free entry.

For this reason, The sidewalk spoke with Ricardo Tapia, vocalist and guitarist of the group, in order to anticipate what will be a real party. “The Usina show is going to be structured as in a theater because the space warrants it”, explains Tapia and adds that it will be “a recital without emergencies, to sit and listen" since "that greatly broadens the spectrum of repertoire".

For the group from Florencia Varela, it has been – and continues to be- a journey of hard work, but that it had its fruits since the band is the main reference of blues and black music in our country. “Son 35 intense years of hard work, trips and completed projects”, expresses the musician. “We came back from a very long tour of Spain and we could see the growth of the public there. It is a band with very good artistic health, which gives us a lot of joy and projection”, he explained.

What have they left behind since their beginnings and what do you think is La Mississippi's formula for moving forward??

What one leaves behind always depends on many factors., country is first. We knew how to surf crises of all kinds and work in very hard times. I don't know if there is a formula, but we always put the projects ahead and we try to fulfill them in their majority and innovate to refresh musically.

They started the year in La Trastienda and dusted off several classics. How do you agree when putting together the lists of songs for the concerts??

What we do with songs that we haven't touched for a long time is the same as what we do with the best-known ones.: always renewing them. It is a creation exercise on what is created.

Even though the band plans to celebrate all year long these 35 trajectory, there will be a very special date: will be the 18 November in the same mythical place where the 30, Luna Park Stadium.

That date coincided with the presence of several great guests who were part of the path of La Mississippi. "The Moon of the 30 The pre-pandemic years were excellent" recalls Tapia and now assures that this "comes with important surprises, what motivates us to be better and better”. Also "soon they will have news", anticipated the musician.

Are they authentic referents of the genre in the country? Do they feel recognized??

We feel that recognition in every show, in every news story. We are grateful for the space that people have made for us in their hearts.. That can't be paid.

At one point in the talk, the subject changes regarding the strictly economic, to find out more how in times of crisis a band that moves independently can solve itself and continue its journey. “Economics need organization, and we always had it, begins detailing Ricardo and explains that "all of us before being musicians dedicated to one hundred percent, We had other work activities in youth and that experience must be applied to our own project”. Due, “one sometimes loses some battles, but win the war, affirms.

before saying goodbye, to frame a memory of these 35 years, Ricardo Tapia points out that "there are many moments" but that "at this moment I remember a show in the old Paseo La Plaza open, where after disarmed, my eldest son began to walk. Does 30 years of that and I still remember it like yesterday ".
