This Thursday will premiere in all Argentine cinemas "Love without barriers" (West side story), remake by director Steven Spielberg of the late 1950s Broadway classic.

Before the premiere, the prominent director argued that "this film is probably the most intimidating of my career" since "Love without barriers" is, according to Spielberg, "The best soundtrack ever written for the theater", thus becoming a "dream project".

“It is very intimidating to take a masterpiece and make it through different eyes and sensitivities., without compromising the integrity of what is generally considered the best music ever written for the theater ”, commented the director and added “I think great stories should be told over and over again., partly to reflect the different perspectives and different moments in time at work ".

About the original version, Spielberg highlighted: "I love the original movie made by Robert Wise with Jerome Robbins". “Wise was a close friend for many, many years, and I talked to him about the movie ad nauseam. And Walter Mirisch, that produced love without barriers (1961), is another dear friend who told me all kinds of great stories about the making of the film ".

"Love Without Barriers" is a "theater masterpiece that redefined Broadway musicals", as Spielberg describes it. Among its merits, "It was the first of its kind, absolutely original, and no one can catch that kind of lightning in a bottle twice ".

The key to working on the original production was “honoring this masterpiece, to meet your demands, we were also hoping to try to find our way to the energy needed to do something so new, so fresh".

About the soundtrack of the play, Spielberg recalls that “I loved it the first time I listened to it” and that “when I was a child I could sing each of its songs from memory, and sang them at dinner until the patience of everyone in my family was exhausted. The score seems to have always been part of my DNA. I didn't know exactly how, but it always seemed inevitable to me that eventually I would find some way to work on it ".

"Love without barriers" means "a lot to many, and I am delighted to have this opportunity to breathe new life into it and share it with a new audience ", ended.
