Teatro Ciego takes one of its proposals to Off Broadway in New York
It was recently confirmed that Teatro Ciego will come to Off Broadway in New York with “Odd Man Out.”, the English version of “Toad from another well”, one of the successes of the traditional venue.
“Toad from another well” was one of the proposals that the traditional Buenos Aires venue previewed in 2019 and officially premiered this year.
In this way, the Argentine company dedicated to the development of blind sensory experiences, will arrive at Off Broadway in New York with a new immersive and innovative in-person experience in the city.
As explained by Teatro Ciego, “Odd man out” (whose official platform is http://www.OddManOutNYC.com) It is an experience in complete darkness., to be performed at The Flea Theater. The play was written by Martin Bondone and directed by Bondone himself alongside Carlos Armesto and Facundo Bogarin.
During this proposal, The spectators will be “passengers” who will enter the theater guided by their stewardess or flight attendant.. Once seated, they put on headphones and eye masks and from there, They immerse themselves in Alberto's story, a blind musician who flies from New York to Buenos Aires, Argentina, after decades of self-exile.
As listeners delve deeper into the love story, prejudices and fears experience a “journey” multi-sensory with surround sound 360
Because the passengers are blindfolded, The experience offers a gateway to a world where dramatic action can be “seen” with all the senses except sight. – through auditory imagination and sensory effects that unfold in the room.
In this framework you may feel aromas or elements to touch.. Passengers will even feel that the weather being narrated is happening around them. This experience awakens the senses, tests the limits and uses darkness to bring the audience into a new light.
At the beginning of this year and due to the pandemic, This show was presented as an immersive theatrical sensory box to make the experience at home. Each participant received a box at their home that contained all the elements necessary to follow the story..
It is worth noting that the 40 percent of staff and creative teams are made up of blind and low vision people. In that context, a portion of the proceeds from the immersive experience will go to Visions (https://www.visionsvcb.org/), providing services for the blind and visually impaired.
