The Black Crowes en Argentina: Crows loose in Luna Park
While the year for international visits is just beginning, the Black Crowes show at Luna Park will remain as one of the most forceful of 2023.
the wait was too long: 27 years have passed since the last (and only last night) visit of the group of brothers Chris and Rich Robinson to our country. They also settled the account of presenting a complete show, since in that opportunity 1996 were in charge of opening the recital of neither more nor less than Robert Plant and Jimmy Page at Ferro Carril Oeste.
The reason for the visit was known: the band is submerged in the international tour that celebrates the 30 años de “Shake your money maker”, first album and one of the most successful of his career.
With the Argentine Nicolás Bereciartúa on guitars, the historic Sven Pipien on bass, Joel Robinow and Erik Deutsch on keyboards and Brian Griffin on drums, Black Crowes worked like a real hit steamroller.
An inconvenience in Brazil meant that they could not move equipment, scenery and even clothes, all this clarified at the end by Bereciartúa, who thanked the "musician friends" who provided instruments and even the Little Fox Von Quintiero, who got boots for chris robinson and pipien.
But this problem did nothing more than increase the figure of a group of musicians in times when paraphernalia takes greater preponderance. Throughout almost two hours the band gave themselves completely giving a forceful lesson on the old art of rock and roll.
The immutable figure of Rich Robinson was contradicted by his talent, capable of generating a perfect trip between the classic sounds of the Rolling Stones or The Faces, the soul of Otis Redding or the roots of blues and southern rock.
Nico Bereciartúa deserves a separate paragraph, since as a stable member of the group he had a great night, doing the solos in the vast majority of the songs, engaging in guitar crossovers with Robinson himself and getting applause that gave him the typical smile of a fan who is fulfilling a dream.
“Shake your money maker” played completely and in the same order in which it was edited, that is to say, the group started the night with two pearls like “Twice as hard” and “Jealous again”, lowering the intensity a bit with “Sister luck”, but rising again with "Could I've been so blind".
The public was arriving at the stadium on time, that finally showed a good capacity, without being full in its capacity.
“Hard to handle” was the perfect invitation to a party that was getting better and better. A song that never seems to get old, beyond having been published by Otis Redding in 1968.
The album was finishing and with the beautiful ballad "She talks to angels", “Struttin blues” and “Stare it cold” ended the first part of the concert.
However there was no farewell, since immediately proceeded to the second part of the recital, a selection of great classics from his entire career.
The first to play was "No speak no slave", la joya de “Southern harmony and the musical companion”, second plate of the group, album that they also reviewed with “Remedy” and “Thorn in my pride”; "Go faster" from "By your side" and "Wiser time" from "Amorica" were the songs to round off a list of songs perfect for the night of the reunion with our country.
After a short break, the band returned for the final goodbye with a version of "Rocks off" by the Rolling Stones., which is included in his covers album “1972”.
That's how the crows flew from Luna Park, settling accounts with their followers who waited for them for more than 20 years and who returned to their homes longing for a next (and not so long in time) visit.
