Latest Magic Lantern Feature, the exclusive film club for the little ones

This Sunday 26 November at 16 hours, the cultural center 25 of May will witness the last performance of the cycle 2023 from The Magic Lantern, the film club dedicated to the little ones, of 6 a 12 years.

This time, the film adaptation of “The Famous Invasion of the Bears in Sicily” will be screened (2019), a work directed by the talented Italian illustrator Lorenzo Mattotti and presented at the Cannes Festival.

The plot follows the captivating story of Tonio, son of the Bear King, who is captured by hunters in the Sicilian mountains. Faced with the threat of hunger in his town during the harsh winter, The Bear King decides to undertake an invasion of the human kingdom to recover his son. This classic of Italian children's literature, considered a parable about colonization, cultural appropriation and abuse of power, promises to captivate young and old alike.

The movie, awarded in the past with an Eisner Award for the outstanding work of Lorenzo Mattotti in the American comic industry, deploys a careful animation aesthetic destined to become a benchmark of the genre. Not only does it offer an immersive narrative, but also invites reflection on power and innocence, providing young viewers with a unique experience.
