Whitney Houston, the first with three diamond discs
Whitney Houston became the first black artist in history with three diamond discs in her career, after his album "Whitney" by 1987 exceed the sale of 10 million copies in the United States.
According to the parameters of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the diamond disc is reached when the album in question sells ten times the equivalent of a platinum record, which involves the sale of a million plates.
As reported by the specialized magazine Billboard, the disc, which was the second in the trajectory of the renowned singer who died in 2012, thus joins the other two jobs that had achieved the achievement: “Whitney Houston”, his debut album 1985, which is already 13 times platinum; and the soundtrack he made for "El guardaespaldas" in 1992, What is it 18 times platinum only in the United States (45 all over the world).
No other black artist, male, female, soloist or group, so far had three diamond discs.
However there are three others who got two: Michael Jackson, rapper 2Pac and Mariah Carey.
Houston's new achievement comes almost simultaneously with another milestone, since his video clip for "I Will Alwyays Love You" has also just passed the barrier of one billion views on the YouTube platform.
