The Fine Arts inaugurates the exhibition dedicated to María Heras Velasco
This Thursday, starting at 19 hours, The National Museum of Fine Arts will present the temporary exhibition “Transposition of a signal. Heras Velasco Centennial, a historical reconstruction of the exhibition that the Argentine sculptor made in 1971 at the Arte Nuevo Gallery in Buenos Aires.
The exhibition is part of the celebrations for the hundred years of the birth of María Juana Heras Velasco and has the support of the Taller Heras Velasco Archive, which organizes commemorative activities in more than fifteen public and private institutions throughout the country, including restorations, talks, exhibitions and other proposals.
Located in the second floor room of the Museum, The exhibition includes archival material of the artist and recreates the original presentation of her work “Transposeña 71”, a piece of iron folded and painted with industrial techniques, donated by Heras Velasco in 1976 to the collection of Fine Arts. This work, fundamental within its production, represents the starting point of his interest in working with urban elements and unconventional materials. “This exhibition celebrates a pioneering artist of abstract sculpture in the country”, states Andrés Duprat, director of the Fine Arts. “‘Transposeña 71’ is a key piece in our collection, "which reflects Heras Velasco's experimentation with urban codes and his foray into plastic language.".
The original exhibition of 1971 It was conceived by the artist as a comprehensive project. Heras Velasco intervened in the gallery's stained glass window with black and yellow security stripes, He designed the poster and catalog with this same visual style and drew a yellow line that guided the viewer towards his geometric sculpture.. This work was the first of a series of pieces called “Transposeñas”, in which he explored urban signage and its link with the exhibition space, an approach he developed in his subsequent solo shows.
In relation to this proposal, Fernanda Heras and Victoria Lopresto, from the Heras Velasco Workshop Archive, They expressed that the current exhibition at the Fine Arts allows us to recover and redefine the artistic vision of Heras Velasco from his personal archive., reaffirming the thought that supported his work.
