The Museo de Arte Popular José Hernández (MAP) began the exhibition of the works of Tomás Ditaranto at its headquarters on Avenida del Libertador 2373.

Thomas Ditaranto (1904-1985), recognized as one of the outstanding Italian-Argentine visual artists of the 20th century, He developed his artistic career in his atelier in Liniers passages., managing to establish himself as a painter with a vision of two worlds. His work reflects a deep need to document the environment and humanity, capturing landscapes and human figures through various techniques and a vast amount of work.

Among his most notable achievements are the illustrations for the only polylingual edition of “Martín Fierro”., published by Edil publishing house in 1973, on the occasion of the centenary of the original work of José Hernández. Born in Montescaglioso, Italy, the 24 February 1904, Ditaranto emigrated to Buenos Aires when he was two years old. From an early age, He dedicated himself to the study of art and, from 1945, He began a series of trips throughout the country that enriched his artistic themes., becoming the fundamental basis of his legacy.

During his tours, Ditaranto made numerous sketches that are currently exhibited at the Museum of Popular Art. He used a variety of techniques such as oil, The water-color, the charcoal, the cake and the monocopy. further, in 1951 Y 1952, He traveled through Europe to visit museums and workshops of renowned painters in countries like Italy., Switzerland, France and Spain, accumulating a total of fourteen international trips that included destinations such as the Spanish Cantabrian Sea, Tangier and Tetouan, among other cities.

In 1983, Ditaranto began to experience progressive vision loss, which led him in his last years to depend on his memory to continue his artistic work. With the support of his wife, organized his palette and developed mental compositions, focusing on representing the images he remembered from his travels. He died 29 August 1985, leaving an invaluable legacy of works.

The exhibition at the MAP not only shows his impressive work, but also offers a varied program of activities, as guided tours presented by his grandson, Thomas Ditaranto. further, Saturday 16 November at 17 hours the talk “Digital souvenirs of Martín Fierro” will be held, where an NFT work will be developed based on the work of Ditaranto, accompanied by a demonstration and conversation with Gabriela Serkin.

The exhibition will be open until the 23 of March.
