Recently the temporary exhibition “Gerstein, Heras Velasco. Simon. Artificers of metal” at the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Located in the room 33 of the first floor of the traditional Buenos Aires venue located on Avenida del Libertador, The public will have the opportunity to appreciate three large sculptures, belonging to the institutional collection, that were created by these renowned Argentine artists.

In the room you can see the “Marejada” sculptures (1970), by Naomi Gerstein, recently acquired by Friends of Fine Arts to integrate the Museum's collection; “Transposeña” (1971), by Juana Heras Velasco; and “Box” (ca. 1967), by Maria Simon, both works donated by the artists themselves to the Fine Arts collection.

According to Andrés Duprat said, museum director, “The pieces that make up this exhibition were made by three Argentine sculptors as virtuous as they were avant-garde” and added: “His works combine the inventiveness of formal abstraction with the physical work necessary to overcome the resistance of materials such as stainless steel and aluminum”.

For Duprat, this exhibition “recognizes the influence of Gerstein, Heras Velasco and Simon in the renewal of sculptural language. But, especially, It is a tribute to their decisions, who managed to avoid the precepts that, along the history, “have conditioned the performance of women artists”.

Likewise, Mariana Marchesi – artistic director of the museum- expressed that “the trajectory of these sculptors is crossed by experimentation with materials and forms.”, as well as by work techniques that involve a constant challenge to the limits of one's own body.".

“Carried out between the end of the years 60 and early years 70, The pieces on display raise issues such as the link with the environment – natural or urban – and the ability to question or interact with the public.. Putting in dialogue, "They acquire new potential and invite us to reflect on the innovative role of women artists in history.", Marchesi completed.

The exhibition will remain open until 23 June and can be seen from Tuesday to Friday 11 a 20 and on Saturdays and Sundays, of 10 a 20, With free entry.
