Full rooms and passion for genre cinema at BARS
The edition 25 of Buenos Aires Blood Red (BARS), horror film festival, the fantastic and the bizarre, It was a resounding success that attracted more than 30.000 people.
This year, The event took place during 11 days at the Multiplex Belgrano, with a program that included 68 feature films and 244 short films, highlighting 28 national productions. Special activities were also carried out, like a talk with the Spanish director Paco Plaza, a party organized by Sarna Cine Punk and free events at the Eliseo Subiela School.
The festival not only reaffirmed its place as the epicenter of genre cinema in the region, but it offered a unique experience where the public, The artists and technical teams were able to celebrate a diversity of cinematographic proposals far from the traditional circuits.
Los premios destacados
In the International Competition, the jury, composed by Estefani Céspedes Meza, Agustín Masaedo and Luciano Lamberti, awarded the best film award to “Chainsaw Were Singing”, from Estonia Sander Maran. The award for best direction went to Pablo Stoll Ward for “The Summer Theme” (Uruguay), while “A Place Called Silence” (China) won best script. Among the acting recognitions, Leonardo Cervantes stood out for “Kids… children of the apocalypse” (Mexico) y Livvy Hill por “The Ghost / The Ghost” (Ireland).
In the Ibero-American Competition, “The instinct”, directed by Juan Albarracín (Spain), won the best film award, while Edgar Nito was recognized as best director for “A Fisherman's Tale”. Mentions included best monster, awarded to “Chuzalongo” by Diego Ortuño (Ecuador), and the best assassin, which fell to Fernando Cayo for “El instinct”.
The Argentine Competition had “El portal” by Mariano Argento as the big winner, who also won the award for best director. Featured performances included Virginia Lombardo for “Abetando con el Diablo” and Demian Salomón for “The Basement.”.

The public vote consecrated “Masacre in the Delta” by Facundo Nuble as the best feature film, while in the bizarre competition “Sánguche Caliente”, by Manuel Facal, got the highest rating. The best short film, according to viewers, fue “Fishmonger”, by Neil Ferron (EE.UU.).
Premios no oficiales y reconocimientos técnicos
Various associations gave awards for technical and artistic aspects. The award for best script, awarded by Gui.Ar, It was for “1978”, by Nicolás and Luciano Onetti, while the ADF award for best photography recognized the work of Juan Sebastián in “El basement”. Other awards included the Fantlatam award, that distinguished “Portraits of the Apocalypse” as the best feature film in the region.
In the field of short films, “Cajas” by Lucas Gingles was selected for the RAFMA traveling exhibition, and “The Red Stone” by Jaime Jazo (Mexico) won the Fantlatam award.
