From Thursday 22 February, The Cervantes National Theater will hold the premiere of the play “La Malinche”, written by Cristina Escofet and directed by Andrés Bazzalo.

The work will be presented in the Orestes Caviglia room starting at 19.30, with performances that run from Thursday to Sunday. This show stars Con Maia Mónaco and Ana Yovino, plus the presence of the live musician Maximiliano More.

“La Malinche” is a performance that is located between the 1500 and the 1523, moment when the birth of Malinalli and the reconquest of Tenochtitlán by the Spanish of Hernán Cortés occurred, respectively.

Within that context, La Huesera – a woman of more than 400 years- will be the protagonist of the story that La Cantora reads through the corn grains.

Malinalli is the princess of Paynala. She will be expelled from her noble origin due to family determinations. This will produce the path of a girl who will become the feminine archetype of the hinge woman between Mesoamerican cultures and the culture of the Spanish conquest..

This work is of a confessional nature, culminating with the protagonist about to give birth. According to Escofet herself, “The hypothesis on which it is based is that if the conquest left a legacy, "is that of belonging to an uncertain mixture" and adds: “Among cultural roots buried by barbarism and genocide, and compliance with an order of power linked to the crown of Charles V and the inquisitorial power of the Catholic Church. Between forgotten gods and a punishing religion, Malinche emerges as a disembodied figure. Traitor or survivor?”.

As for inputs, They can be purchased at the ticket offices of the venue located on Libertad. 815 or through the Alternative Theater System.
