“Madame Blanca”, the oriental legend to enjoy at the CCC
Ignacio Huang recently presented his new theatrical show, “Madame Blanca”, a Spanish adaptation of “The Legend of the White Serpent”, one of the most popular and canonical stories in Chinese folklore.
This work promises an unforgettable journey to the heart of the Asian giant. Performed by Huang himself, together a Carolina Hsu, Florencia Solís and Walter Shao Gómez, “Madame Blanca” offers a unique experience to revive this cultural pearl that has enchanted the Far East for more than 1000 years.
The functions will be 29 in June and every Saturday in July at the Leónidas Barletta Experimental Space (belonging to the Cultural Center of Cooperation), located on Avenida Presidente Roque Sáenz Peña 943.
The plot of “Madame Blanca” revolves around two immortal snakes, White and Blue, who decide to explore the human world. Transformed into women, arrive at the shore of the beautiful Xihu Lake, where Blanca meets Hsuxian, a young scholar without great achievements. Blanca falls in love with Hsuxian and, with the help of Azul as a witness, they form a marriage. Years later, A Buddhist monk appears before Hsuxian and warns him of the danger of having a superhuman wife., offering to free him from his entanglement and reveal the true identities of Blanca and Azul, which sparks a battle between good and evil.
The legend on which the work is based reflects the Taoist belief that all animals have infinite possibilities of sublimation., to take human form and even become gods. This mixture of reality and fantasy allows metaphorical interpretations that translate into ethical and moral parameters for the education of the people.. The legend, originating from the Song dynasty (1127-1279), It is located on the shores of Xihu Lake in Hangzhou, China. People can still walk on the Duanquiao Bridge, the place where the white snake and his lover swore eternal love, with the facade of the Leifeng Pagoda in the background.
“Madame Blanca” stands out for its female protagonist in a traditionally patriarchal society, which highlights the empowerment of women as a historical construction and not a simple modern trend. The work also promotes a debate about the acceptance of diversity in all its senses.: racial, of genre, and beliefs. It is a reflection on tolerance towards otherness and a complaint against social discrimination..
Although it is not a Peking opera, “Madame Blanca” incorporates formal elements of this art, as archetypal characters, symbolic scenery, mimes, music, costumes and combat scenes. The narrative is summarized in four typical Peking Opera characters.: the gallant, the Lady, the painted face or the choleric, and the jester. The play uses minimalist scenery and martial arts techniques for the combat scenes.. It is suitable for all audiences and avoids violent language and scenes., making “Madame Blanca” a show accessible to all ages
